Instrument Details |
Instrument/Facility Name: Atomic Absorption Spectrometer (AAS) |
Make: Varian |
Model: AA 240 |
Specification:
- Flame type atomic absorption spectrometer
- PC based with software and accessories
- Have double beam spectrometers
- Highly sensitive with less interference
- Provision for background corrections
The Varian AA 240 AAS is an easy-to-use, but robust equipment with 4 lamp capability. It provides high performance and lower running costs. On normal application, Varian AA 240 system delivers real productivity improvements in flame AA. High productivity means reduced gas, reagent and lamp usage, and better results. Pure gases like C2H2, and N2O/ air are used for production of flames.

Working Principles:
This is a technique for analysis of elements in liquids. Metallic elements are determined in both organic and inorganic samples. It is a sensitive technique with standard flame that can determine the concentration of most elements at the parts per million (ppm) level. Through the use of calibration curves, prepared from suitable standards, a high level of accuracy and precision (± 1-3%) is achieved in flame AAS. This allows for compositional as well as traces impurity analysis. Most spectral interferences and matrix effects are overcome by utilizing well-characterized conditions and matrix matching of samples and standards.

 |
Applications:
AAS is usually used to determine the concentration of elements such as calcium, magnesium, copper, zinc, iron, manganese, cobalt etc. in different biological (food, feed, fodder, blood and urine) and soil samples.
|
User Instructions:
Biological and soil samples need to be processed either by dry or wet digestion method, prior to determine the concentrations of elements in samples.
